I recently came across this talk given by Krashen. It is a very good example of what we have been discussing in class i.e. any piece of academic writing is about "your new idea" that you contribute to the wider academia.

Stephan Krashen talks about phonemic awareness in context of second language acquisition. Phonemic awareness is ability to take words and break it in to sound as per the oral ability. This can be done by divide the words or blend the words. National Reading Panel claim that phonemic awareness is training, significantly improve learners reading-spelling ability. Krashen claims that phonemic awareness is misguided. According to him phonemic words cannot be pre course for reading. Learners can increase the reading ability without noticing phonemic awareness.

He then gives the idea about Liberation, Bilingual act, and Second Language Acquisition. He talk about Phonemic awareness. Phonemically Awareness is an ability to take a word and break it into sounds. Two types of Phonemic awareness are there <1> devide the words into segmentation.<2> to put the words into together. He gives two words i.e. Pit and Split. He tells that we make Phonemic causes effect error while producing the words. While producing the word “split”, we seprate the word ‘s’ from ‘plit’. The students saw the words into mind’s eyes. John Yatvin claim that Phonemic Awareness training significantly improves children’s reading spelling activity. He distinguished the two important words i.e. ‘Education’ and ‘Training’.

DeleteStephen Krashen has given the introduction about the Second Language Acquisition & Phonemic Awareness. He gives the importance of Phonemic Awareness in language acquisition it may be second or target language. Phonemic Awareness is a process of breaking the sounds into pieces and then put them together. The sounds put together into words is called to blending. He gave an example phonemic activity. He gave two words I.e. pit and split. The students while see the words, they try to comprehend into their mind’s eyes. Then he demonstrate that the child make phonemical error while producing sound .then he quoted john yatvin’s idea on phonemic awerness . krashan told that training is different from education.

ReplyDeleteIn his video, Stephen Krashen Talk 1, Stephen has made some new claims that are often talked about in the academia. Krashen has talked upon phonemical error. He defines phonemical error as an activity to take a word and break it into its sounds. He says that this type of activity has been used by kids ten years ago. Learning will take place only when we become able to spell whatever we see. Stephen Krashen has also referred to Yatvin who has given some behavioural psychological theories. According to these theories, phonemical learning will never improve childrens’ reading ability as well as spelling ability. A minute distinction between training and education has been made by National Reading Panel. It has considered phonemical learning as a training.

ReplyDeleteStephan Krashen talks about the second language acquisition, comprehensible input, etc. For acquiring any language the most important thing is phonemic words. It is necessary for the kids to have awareness of this phonemic words. the systematic study will improve the barriers of second language acquisition. Stephen emphasizes on segmentation of words. He talks about NCLB as well. He also talks about language barriers that how do they occur.Reading is the best way for improving the level of second language acquisition.

ReplyDeleteStephan Krashen, .the British Linguist,in his speech,he talks about the new ideas & inputs regarding the second language acquisition.In his talk, six topics are included.He tells that for acquiring the second language for kids,he says that there may occur the phonemic cause effect at the prior level.He emphasis on more use of use of library for bilingualism.At last, he talks about the six studies:3 in English,1 in Spanish,Regional,and in Hebrew. The research showed no differences at all.

Stephen krashen gives the important of phonemic Awareness in language acquisition and target of second language study in English. His First story talks about NCLB- No Cooperation Left Behind. He talks about phonemic word and phonemic learning errors. Phonemic word is ability to take a word and break it into its sound. NRP consisted number of behavioral psychological theories. That claim was phonemic word is training. They stated that phonemic learning will never improve children’s reading and spelling abilities. If children’s are trained and they get better, it means that they are UN-text of phonemic learner. It happens in the case when the activity has nothing to do with language. He considered that if we have more studies, may be the results will be different.

According to him, phonemic word is basically to take word and break it into sound. Stephen claims that phonemic words cannot be procured for reading. It is entirely mis- guided. Learners can increase reading skill without noticing phonemic words. Then he gives two types of activities of phonemic word. 1) To break the word e.g. split is a word and if we remove‘s’, the word ‘plit’ lefts there. 2) To blend the word. Then he mentions Yetkin who claims that phonemic are training and training is different from education.

ReplyDeleteAt the beginning Stephen Krashen talks about NCLB that means No Corporation Left Behind. he focuses that phonemical awareness and Second Language Acquisition and also National Reading Panel. Phonetical awareness is the take over and break it into its sound.There are two types of Phonemical awareness:1)Devide the words into Segmentation and 2) To put the words into together. Krashen says that phonemical awareness is not the pre-cursival reading but his claim is very difficult, not the phonemical awareness it's a very shorts to have reading anything entire phonemical awareness range is based in entirely misguided.he says that "Training is different from Education". At last he says that if we had more studies may be the research would be different.

ReplyDeleteIn this video Stephen Krashen talk about some topics like NCLB, SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISTION, NATIONAL READING, LIBRARY AND BYLINGUAL LAB. He also talks about Phonemic awareness. He introduces two types of Phonemic awareness. Phonemic awareness means take the word and break it into sound. 1.) Segmentation 2.) Blending. He gave the example of the word plit and split. The phonemic word is related with sound. He also gave the activity of kids. According to him,reading is very essential part for enhances as well as it makes the effective learner's language.
Part 1, Stephen Krashen talks about six point of language learning. The most important point is second language acquisition and phenomical activity or segmentation activity. He talks about phonemic awareness. He says, in training some people gave information. For example, Psychologist of behavior training activity but some mistake left. And one physiolist John Yatvin gives meaning training activity and phonemic principle; there were some minor week points. Second point, training is different to education. He said that, John training activity for choose one kids group and he used six points of Tomlinson and there are 3 kids in that group who was without English. We can say that he believed in positive effect.

He had six topics in his mind and each was approximately 7-8 minutes,but he had first talked about phonemic awareness. Phonemic awareness is the result of knowing how to read,not the cause.He was talking about John Yatvin. According to him phonemic awareness is training and training is different from education.Stephen talked about National Reading Panel and his favorite topic is Library.He said that kids never get to learn.so he gave three standard research training.Spanish,English,Hebrew.So in this video he wants to say that phonemic awareness is very important.

ReplyDeleteKrashen claims the experiment and the result of it done by National Reading Panel about Phonemic Awareness. National Reading Panel which includes several experimental psychologists, teacher and physician who are appointed by the government experimented upon 15 students learning Hibroo that students learn because of phonemic awareness. But Stephen claims that it is the result of reading and not the cause of it. Moreover, he says that the experiment was done on a small group of students which proves that this experiment lacks enough evidences. When individual experiments were done on the same topic the result was that even a student who does not possess phonemic awareness could learn to read well. These individual experiments had comparison groups too, one group not having phonemic awareness training at all, they could read well too.

Their claim was, “Phonemic awareness training significantly proves children’s ability of reading spellings. According to Stephen phonemic awareness is the result of knowing how to read reading and he also says that the whole thought of phonemic awareness is misguided. He also argues that the experiment was done on a very small scale and also the samples were only 15. For him it is a very little evidence. At the same time he talks about experiments done individually on the same topic and its result was students who have very little phonemic awareness could read well. Further he claims that there was a group not having phonemic awareness but they even could learn better, how did it happen?
