  2. Academic Discourse:
The major fieldssuch as ELT, Or Food Science exists because there are still some unsolved problems pertaining to this field and the researchers and professors are working on it, to solve it.

In order to do it, the people working in their particular fields form academic communities to share their ideas and information. These community of scholars , share their ideas in writing so that other can analyze and evaluate it.So we can say that the sharing of ideas and responding to ideas is termed as "Academic Discourse".
A basic meaning of "discourse" is conversation.Another definition of academic discourse can be considered as a conversation. The conversation is already taking place, when we are firstly introduced to it.

Different terms are used while doing academic writing for e.g." Analysis" or an "argument". These terms used for academic writing is called as acaemic genres.Summary and Synthesis are often used to report the idea of others. The writer uses summary and synthesis, often including quotation and paraphrase with correct citation , to report the relevant parts of what others have said.Quotation, Paraphrase and citation are very much important in discourse because the academic discourse community has decided that it is very important to draw distinction in the new paper that are already published and the new ideas that will be presented in this paper. If a writer only wanted to report published ideas that are already known, summary and synthesis might be all that was needed, but writers often want to show the strength and weaknesses of others ideas.Analysis looks after the parts of an idea and looks for the relationships between the parts to learn about the whole.Evaluation compares the idea to some standard or criteria and makes a judgement whether it meets the criteria or not.
When after responding and reporting others ideas, when writers are ready to present their own ideas, they have to present their ideas clearly as others would also analyse and evaluate their ideas. So if the ideas are to be considered by the community then they should follow the principles of rational academic argument. The writers often begin by using summary and synthesis to explain the precise meanings of concepts and terms through definition and explanation. However the discourse community has decided that just explaining new ideas is not at all enough.

So for an academic writing to become an appropriate academic discourse then the ideas must be supported with evidence, and the writer must draw logical connections between the evidence and the ideas.Evidence is also summarised and synthesised, analyzed and evaluated. So by learning this genres the students can contribute to the academic community of their particular field.

You read in your field to research, not only important background information, but also to learn the important questions and problems in your field, to find out what issues others are working on. After researching the conversation, an academic who has new information or ideas to contribute will write an new paper to share these new thoughts.

When students are assigned academic writing, they are often confused by the terms professors use. These term refers to academic genres. Genres are certain forms or styles of writing that are designed to accomplish certain purposes. The most common academic genres that students need to master are summary, synthesis, analysis, and evaluation and all of theses are used to build valid academic arguments. The community makes attention towards the ideas for the particular paper will present. For all these accomplish things each community has agreed certain convection for citing the ideas and words for others.
